Ayurveda is the strongest pillar of Wellness Tourism: PM Modi
Addressing the delegates of the Global Ayurveda Festival through video conferencing, Prime Minister, Narendra Modi has highlighted the increasing importance of Wellness Tourism which has emerged as one of the key elements of travel and tourism across the world. Modi said that the key pillar on which Wellness Tourism rests is Ayurveda and traditional medicines. Delegates from 25 countries are participating in the Global Ayurveda Festival organised by the Ayush Ministry of Government of India.

PM Modi said that one of the flavours of Indian tourism is Wellness Tourism and the country offers diverse opportunities for wellness seekers who seek to treat illness and further wellness. There is no better place than the lush green surroundings of a beautiful State like Kerala for a detox therapy. Similarly, destinations like Uttarakhand offer a perfect setting to perform yoga and meditation with the holy Ganges and Himalayas in the backdrop, the Prime Minister said. He also highlighted the lush green forests of the North East for perfect rejuvenation of the body, mind and soul. “If your life’s deadlines and timelines are stressing you out, it is time to tap into the timeless culture of India. Whether you want to treat your body, or a retreat for your mind, come to India,” PM Modi said.

The Prime Minister called up the experts in traditional medicine to think of “World wide wellness.” He also proposed a Global Summit on world wide wellness on the occasion. PM Modi also welcomed the proposal of the World Health Organisation (WHO) to set up a Global Centre for Traditional Medicine in India. “You would be happy to know that already, students from various countries are coming to India to study about Ayurveda and traditional medicines,” the PM said.

The Prime Minister said that the global Covid-19 pandemic has put the spotlight on Indian spices and traditional medicines like Ayurveda. “The current situation presents a right time for Ayurveda and traditional medicines to become even more popular globally. There is growing interest towards them. The world is seeing how modern and traditional medicines both are important to further wellness. People are realizing the benefits of Ayurveda and its role in boosting immunity. People are making Kaadha, Basil, black pepper integral parts of their lives,” the PM added.
